Scholar Nomination

Scholar Nomination

2023 Deadline for Submission: October 2nd

The Bucksbaum Institute invites you to nominate one or more faculty from your department to become a Bucksbaum Institute Master Clinician, Senior Faculty Scholar, or Junior Faculty Scholar. For the purposes of these nominations, Master Clinicians should have active clinical practices, are outstanding clinician-teachers, and serve as role models, mentors, and teachers of Bucksbaum Faculty and Student Scholars. Senior Faculty Scholars should be experienced physicians at the associate or full professor level who are recognized for their ability to role-model outstanding behavior towards their patients and colleagues, their exceptional depth of knowledge regarding the practice of medicine, and their willingness to share personal/professional experiences with junior faculty and students. Junior Faculty Scholars should be faculty members at or below the rank of Assistant Professor. Please note that the nomination process is open to clinical care providers who are not physicians. All nominees who are not selected will be invited to become Associate Junior Faculty Scholars, which allows them to apply for our Pilot Grant funding.

If you have previously nominated a faculty member from your department, they will automatically be considered again in this year’s selection process. For Junior Faculty Scholars, it is typically the case that many of these appointed Junior Faculty Scholars were Associate Junior Faculty Scholars the year prior. Junior Faculty Scholars will receive support for a two-year term, during which time they will be expected to participate in Bucksbaum Institute programming and/or committee work, and to engage in research related to the Bucksbaum mission. To support this work, the Bucksbaum Institute will contribute $20,000 per year toward the scholar and an additional $10,000 per year to the department.

Please submit your nominations using the form below. The nominee’s CV and a one or two-paragraph letter indicating how the work of the faculty member you nominate reflects the goals of the Bucksbaum Institute. The deadline for nominations is October 2, 2023. If you have questions regarding the application process please feel free to contact the Bucksbaum Institute Administrative Director, Joni Krapec (jkrapec@bsd.uchicago.edu). We appreciate your help in identifying outstanding candidates for the Junior Faculty Scholars Program in the Bucksbaum Institute for Clinical Excellence.
